About Church of the Redeemer

Church of the Redeemer is located in the city of Cleveland Heights on Taylor Road between Ceder and Fairmount in a residential neighborhood.

Redeemer is a United Methodist Church. We are a member of the North Coast District and the East Ohio Conference. What this means is that we serve in connection with dozens of other churches in the area. The UMC has a long history as one of the major mainline protestant denominations in the USA.

The membership of Redeemer numbers about 200 with anywhere from 80 to 120 people in any given Sunday service -- sort of "medium sized". This is small enough so that most of our members know each other by name and large enough so that we can have a real impact on any program or project where we all work together.

The Mission Statement of Church of the Redeemer is important and comprehensively reflects both the four central and unique aspects of our program. The mission of Church of the Redeemer is to:

  • Accept all people and God's children and to serve our neighbor as witness to God's love; This means in particular that we view acceptance, diversity and incusiveness as central aspects of the church. This also means that for our church "Open Minds, Open Doors, Open Hearts" is not just a slogan, but a way to be faithful. And this also means that at Redeemer, everyone is welcome at God's Table.

  • Urge all children, youth and adults to individually and communally deepen relationships with God through prayer, spiritual discipline and worship. This means that we are constantly encouraging our members to grown and expand. This is reflected our programs for children and youth and in a wide range of opporunity in Christian education, fellowship and discipleship for adults. There is a place to grow and a place to give for everyone at our church.

  • Nurture each other in joy, respecting our varied gifts, abilities, education, ethnicity, income and sexual orientation. Again, for many at Redeemer, diversity is not merely tolerated, it is celebrated, and differences are not obsticles, they are sources of strength. Our church is ethnically, culturally, and economically diverse. It means that the lives of each and every person in our church are valued and that each of us is committed to supporting each other in prayer and with acts of love and service.

  • Live as Christ's Disciples. This means that for all of our diversity, the Gospel is central to everything we do, and we encourage each in our walk with Jesus. It also means we are committed to working together to bring the gifts of God's Kingdom of peace and love to all of the people of all nations.
